Sonic Fan
This morning while I was watering my red impatience and begonias the color of ripe cherries, I saw a green flying object out of the corner of my eye. A hummingbird was briefly visiting a nectar-filled feeder over by the fence. And then I heard a humming that encircled my head. Five times. It wasn't a random flyby. I could feet intent as this female buzzed around may head like a sonic fan. "Sorry, I guess I need to refill!" I apologized to my Red-Breasted hummingbird female who was letting me know that something was up with the two feeders. On inspection, they both feeders looked pretty empty but taking them inside to wash I noticed that the one that annoyed the hummer was full of ants and the other one was empty not only empty but moldy. You could say this is crazy, that my hummingbirds communicate with me. But I would argue with you that's it's kind of magical. It's happened more than once. And several times this year. There are other stories about people communicating with hummingbirds from Texas to California. Believe what you will. But if you are interested, check out this link for anecdotal stories that might be true Stories of Hummingbirds and Humans or this one Human-Hummingbird Convo.
