Something Ventured

I remember the lady at the plant store telling me to get something thrilling (the big leafy plants), something spilling (the green foliage with a few purple blooms) and something filling (hidden pink plants).  She also said to take a photo so I could assess how I like what turned out.  What can I say? The tub is full, but the thriller is way to big and overtaking the tub like a giant ivy on steroids.  The spiller isn't flowing much over the rim and where are all the pretty purple flowers?  And the pink ones?  Hidden, maybe dead.  Gardening is way harder than it looks.  But, then if I don't try something new I learn nothing.  In ceramics I used to wonder why artists would pick one type of pot, cup, bowl and always make it.  They'd always use the same glaze and fire the piece at the same temperature.  And they'd get a predictable result.  Once I started pulling pots and dipping the bisque-ware pieces into glaze and getting wild results I understood.  Doing what you know is predictable.  But boring.  This year for me filling, spilling, thrilling with the plants I chose didn't work. The whole thing looks like it needs a really good haircut and lots and lots of bloom booster.  But there's always next year.
