Taming the Queen of the Meadow
| Spirarea japonica (Queen of the Meadow) |
I try to kill this Queen of the Meadow, tame it, cut it back every year. You gotta give it regards for being so tenacious because here it is blooming again. PictureThis tells me it's another good plant for my brown thumb. But, I don't really like it because it's so out of control. Invasive. But, again, regards for it stick-to-it-iveness. The rosy pink flowers are dainty sweet but the plant is gangly and aggressive. In the family of roses, it apparently symbolizes great effort and prosperity. I get that and so will continue to tame and unsuccessfully manage this Japanese Meadowsweet that grows like a hedge on the corner of one of my gardens. Sometimes those things that are hard to control, even aggressive are worth the effort. After all it was cherished by the Druids! Those little flowers remind me of fireworks on the Fourth of July, making me smile as I inspect my garden on a rainy morning. She's safe for another season.
