A Community of Others

I've been thinking about community this morning as I walk the garden and notice the mass of Shasta daisies outstretched towards the sun and the day lillies in big happy families living their one day of glory.   I can be a bit of a loner but have learned at long last and again that community matters.  Other people matter.  A difficult concept to grasp when you have spent much of your life protecting yourself from so many who would do harm.  I can be that lone trillium that blooms on the edge of the rock wall in my back yard.  The trillium in me accomplishes so much. But I am also like these Japanese Meadowsweet with blooms bursting in all shades of magenta.  In a group of friends and family, all sizes and shapes growing and being.  We are individuals but it's always in the context of others.   You just have to pick the right "others" I have learned again and again.
