Ovenbird

"There is a singer everyone had heard, Loud, a mid-summer and mid-wood bird, Who makes the solid tree trunks sound again." I have never heard of an Ovenbird but Robert Frost has. It's been reported that birds singing at dawn could be a way for them to listen for their neighbours and let other winged warblers know they’re healthy and survived the night. When I let my nerd flag fly this is the type of thing I focus on. Birds. A friend of mine who is equally enamoured by life beyond humaness was over the other day and pulled up an app called Merlin. It's from the Cornell Lab and helps identify 8,500 + birds by song. Birds sing to attract a mate, while mating, to defend and define territory. They also sing for help and sing for fun! This morning Merlin identified eleven songbirds, mostly hidden in our woods. I felt like singing along with them. I am healthy and survived the night. Good days ahead. Welcome to the day Ovenbird, you who make the tree trunks sound again.
