Fishy Business
Mariana used to hide as much as possible. What with having lost her mother, her brother, her dad and her beloved sister. Hiding seemed the best choice. That and being ready.
Most days she'd lay stiff as a damn board on the floor just waiting. Far from the sea. Waiting for God only knows what but she was ready. Blonde straw-like hair covered her face revealing only her mouth so she could be heard yelling, "Leave me alone!" But she adored her free-flying disc boobs. Her chick-pea boobs that seemed to grow with age. "Silly maker." She'd smiled to herself with that big red-lipped mouth.
Mariana loved many things about herself including her desirable tiny waist but her maker only gave her a fish tail instead of legs. "Where the hell are my legs?" Mariana asked the old lady who was her creator. "A tail is much more useful in the deep blue sea, don't ya think?" The maker was trying to convince Mariana to accept what she was given. "Well at least you can eat!" But Mariana just frowned. Sometimes she'd cry sea salt tears. She would not accept the tail. She was no where near the sea. She was simply laying on the floor waiting. Well, sometimes she hung out on the wall.
Mariana wanted to walk on land and be free like the legged souls she knew. Like her maker. Even though her fishy lower end did make it easier to catch the giant blue tuna-type creature that swam in the warm waters to the west. This she knew from way back when.
One day Mariana had had enough.
She pushed up her dry yellow hair to reveal her aquamarine eyes. She was seeing for the first time now. And with that sight she came to a decision to make the most of her fish end and swim all the seas on the planet. "I was made with a fish end. Not legs. Ok, then. Let's make the most of this fishy business."
It was in that moment that Mariana noticed a blue streak in her hair that she'd missed before, on the right side of her head. "I guess I've always been meant for the sea." Mariana felt like she'd seen herself for the first time.
Her nose looked strong and ready.
Her heart was full somewhere in her wooden body.
Mariana was ready to take on the watery world. She didn't miss having legs anymore because she was being who she always was. Now she just had to get from here to there.
"Maker! Maker! Take me to home!"
Marianna yelled loudly to the old maker lady who just smiled and set Mariana free in the wide and deep blue sea.
